Nceba Dywili

ANC Councillor candidate in the Nelson Mandela metro Nceba Dywili has been shot and killed is what’s suspected  to be a political killing. Dywili was killed after an election campaign in the township of Zwide, Port Elizabeth last night.

So far, at least 13 candidates have lost their lives in different parts of the country since the beginning of the election campaigning and the killings have intensified following the announcement of political party candidate lists.

At least one ANC candidate in Philippi Cape Town Mzuzile Mpondwana pulled out of the election race after there were several attempts in his life.

Speaking at a rally in Tembisa on Gauteng’s East Rand, the ANC’s deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa said the political killings were an attempt to distabalise his party in lead to August 3 local government elections.

Police Minister Nathi Nhleko has set up a task team to investigate the rise in the number of political killings. The team will include members from crime intelligence and the Hawks.
