Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee set up to appoint a new Public Protector as Advocate Thuli Madonsela’s term comes to an end is interviewing candidates the whole Thursday and night.
Fourteen candidates have been shortlisted for the country’s ombudsman including The candidates include Western Cape High Court Judge Siraj Desai, Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions Willie Hofmyer and former Deputy Public Protector Mamiki Goodman.
Adv Thuli Madonsela was appointed to the office of the Public Protector by President Jacob Zuma in October of 2009. If it is worth a mention the previous Public Protector, Lawrence Mushwana, did NOT give the chapter 9 institution any prominance and little was heard of it.
Apon acceeeding the office Madonsela demonstrated the independence and the powers of the Public Protector, investigating and releasing a report on Nkandla titled “Secure in Comfort”, the SABC and PRASA.
