Dr Mathole Motshekga who is a member of the ANC NEC shocked South Africans when he took an about turn this weekend calling for President Jacob Zuma to resign. Motshekga who has been a staunch supporter of President Jacob Zuma even through the Nkandla debacle found his voice this weekend when he penned an open letter titled ❝The Honourable Thing To Do

What has suddenly awoken Dr Motshekga’s conscience?

In his own words from the letter;

  • On the Nkandla Constitutional Court matter, the organisation [ANC] did not appreciate the full implications of their actions

  • The ANC cannot, and should not accept collective responsibility for the actions of the President[Zuma] and all those implicated by the State Capture Report
  • President Jacob Zuma, like all of us is a fallible human being. He has no inborn entitlement to the Presidency of South Africa
  • My conscience does not allow me to countenance another humiliating treatment of our President. His situation is untenable, and to continue leaving the matter to his conscience is not in the best interest of the ANC, and the people of South Africa
  • The ANC leadership must convene an urgent NEC meeting and ask the President to do honourable thing and assist him in whatever way possible to endure the situation
  • It would be irresponsible to ask the ANC NEC to resign and dissolve government
  • Now is the time for the ANC to rebuild the confidence of society in its leadership

Some are NOT convinced of his U-Turn on matters relating to the President, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa is one who is skeptical
