Social media users were excited when popular radio DJ and “#DataMustFall” activist Tbo Touch real name Thabo Molefe and business partner Gareth Cliff announced that data prices have fallen with MTN joining the movement. Touch Central tweeted what seemed to be new product pricing for mobile operator MTN.
At face value, it looks like your boy Tbo Touch finally won the battle against high price data in South Africa.
But some consumers, NOT gullible, saw right through Tbo Touch.
Tbo Touch who resigned from Metro fm after 10 years at the station partnered with Gareth Cliff whose CliffCentral online station openedin 2014 for TouchCentralFM, an online radio station. Was this all for Touch to battle @Metrofm?
He made headlines in September when he started a campaign against expensive data costs in the country #DataMustFall, even taking matter to parliament.
So have Data prices fallen? NO, we still have a long way to go but at least, if you are a fan, you can listen to Touch Central for mahala
If you go to @iamtbotouch on Twitter, you will see how the radio presenter has been captured by MTN and lost all credebility as a consumer activist.
