Former ANC Chairperson of the ANC in the Northern Cape and Finance MEC John Block is appealing his 15 years prison sentence in efforts to stay out of jail.
Some seem to think Block might be concocting a plan to stay out of prison via medical parole much like former president Jacob Zuma’s adviser Schabir Shaik who was released on medical parole in 2009 after serving two years and four months of his 15-year prison term.
John Block and his business associate Alfeus Christo Scholtz CEO of Trifecta were found guilty of fraud and corruption in December 2015 for corruption and money laundering in the Northern Cape High Court in Kimberly.
The two were involved in inflating prices on the lease agreement between them and the Northern Cape Social Development Department.
They will both serve 15 years imprisonment and additionally, a forfeiture order of R 2 million has been made against John Block while R53 million confiscation was made against Scholtz and Trifecta.
John Block is the first ANC heavyweight to be charged, tried and sentenced for corruption. Will he be the last?
