ANC’s Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has to the media and in turn the republic that there is NO disciplined member of the ANC who will vote with the opposition. Mantashe was addressing a cohort of journalists at Luthuli House following the party’s national working Committee, the NWC.
According the leaked documents, one of the matters discussed by the ANC’s NWC is the impending motion of NO confidence against President Jacob Zuma.
Yesterday, the speaker of parliament Baleka Mbethe yesterday confirmed that a motion of NO confidence against the president will take place on Tuesday the 18th of April. The motion has been brought forward by the official opposition the DA, the Economic Freedom Fighters and the UDM. It is supported by other political parties will need to be successful.
If ANC MPs including former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan plus 1 of the total 400 members of parliament to win and his Deputy Mcebisi Jonas tow party lines, the motion like the five before it, will undoubtedly fail. The ANC still maintains a majority of 249 seats in the National Assembly and if it closes ranks a NO motion against the President will work, unless 70 of their members vote with with opposition.
Some thought Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas will be the voice of reason and be among those who within the ANC will vote with the opposition. Jonas has resigned and there is NO doubt Gordhan will follow suit, and maybe some of the ANC members who still have regard for their integrity.
